Résumé
Publishing from peripheral contexts presents several challenges for researchers, institutions, and assessment processes. This presentation will discuss some of these challenges.
First, within the context of hyper-productivity, the scientific output from peripheral scholars is deeply diverse in terms of language, publication formats, and authorship.
Second, global bibliometric and scientometric databases unevenly cover this output.
Lastly, a publication model based on Article Processing Charges (APC) has an increasing negative impact on equity.
Most of the data and discussions relate to Argentina, where a significant reduction in the budget for scientific research and universities is ongoing. However, the cases of South Africa, Brazil, and Mexico will also be discussed and compared.
