Eco-Innovations as a Key for Scaling up Start-Up’s Activities for the Green Transition of Ecosystems

This research investigates scaling mechanisms for environmental technologies developed by emerging ventures in Canadian aerospace. The analysis of fourteen companies reveals critical barriers preventing market entry, including regulatory complexity, resource constraints, and ecosystem fragmentation. Institutional support programs emerge as essential bridges connecting innovative ventures with established industry players, enabling technology diffusion beyond niche applications. The findings advance neo-institutional theory by demonstrating how coordinated pressures—regulatory, mimetic, and normative—shape venture integration pathways within traditional industries. Environmental innovations require distinct management approaches compared to conventional technologies, particularly regarding development timelines and stakeholder engagement. The research identifies how accelerator programs and policy interventions facilitate venture survival while promoting industry-wide environmental transformation. These insights offer practical guidance for ventures navigating complex industrial ecosystems and for policymakers designing support mechanisms that balance innovation promotion with environmental objectives.
